CBT Supervision

CBT Supervision

I am an experienced CBT Psychotherapy and Counselling Supervisor with several years practice of supervising therapists working in a range of therapeutic settings. My previous experience includes supervising therapists at an Inner City Counselling Service, and counsellors working in a Drug Rehabilitation setting.

CBT Supervision

I have been an Accredited BABCP Psychotherapist for 16 years and supervise CBT Therapists, Counselling Psychologists and Trainees for IAPT (Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies) Initiatives across the West Midlands as well as students on generic and IAPT CBT courses at Birmingham, Stafford and Wolverhampton Universities.

I currently supervise Accredited and non-Accredited CBT Therapists working in a range of practice settings and support therapists working towards practice Accreditation with the BABCP.

I also have several years experience of supervising therapists/counsellors working in different therapeutic approaches including those who integrate CBT within their current psychotherapeutic approach.

Supervision
In supervision I aim to provide a safe place for therapist to bring their concerns and achievements. Supervision forms an integral part of practice and helps to develop skills and maintain high standards of client care.

The supervisory relationship offers opportunities to develop practitioner reflection and learning, whilst also allowing for the development of personal therapist style. I also endeavor to provide appropriate support related to ethical practice and concerns in line with ethical frameworks and policies within BABCP , BACP and other professional organizations in health and social care.

CBT Supervision
I actively encourage and facilitate close supervision by engaging supervisees to use audio/video tape of their work in order to receive constructive feedback and to assist development. Using the Cognitive Therapy Scale (CTS-R) a typical CBT supervision would include: planning and agenda setting, review and bridge from previous session, the “supervision question”, summary of key learning points and implications for practice.

I have knowledge of a number of models of supervision including Circumflex, Tamden, Padeskey’s and Newcastle model as well as more commonly recognized : Growth and Support (Faugier) , Integrative Approach (Hawkins and Sohet) and Three Function Integrative Model (Inskipp and Proctor). Earlier this year I completed the “Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy in Supervision” Module at Kings College University London.

EMDR Supervision
Elizabeth is an EMDR Consultant and provides supervision for experienced EMDR practitioners as well as trainees and those seeking to become EMDR Accredited.

Groups, email and telephone
Clinical supervision can be provided in a number of different ways and I can offer small group and team supervision and where travel and distance may be a problem supervision can be conducted by telephone or by email.

Contracting
Contracting is an important part of supervision and establishing timing and frequency of meetings will be discussed prior to engaging regular supervision.
